Come Play with Us
Grab your instrument and join the fun! Dedham School of Music hosts regular Bluegrass and Unplugged Rock/Pop Jams for all abilities. For Bluegrass Jams, we have both slow-paced sessions for beginners and faster jams for more experienced players – come find your rhythm with our vibrant community!
Both Bluegrass jams meet at First Church Dedham (670 High Street) in the Parish House (the low building). You’ll find a convenient parking lot behind the Church, just off Bullard Street.
The Pop/Rock Unplugged Jams: Take turns leading a song of your choice – or pass if not yet ready to play and sing a song. When playing a number, you can choose to play a BREAK or do a SOLO instrumental.
This is a great opportunity to learn some new music, get some tips from others, improve your musical skills, and just have a blast doing something you love.
First Floor at Dedham School of Music at 671 High Street, Dedham (at Dedham Community House).
These are casual drop-in groups, and there’s no tuition. However, a donation at the jams is always gratefully accepted to support our musical community!
Beginner Bluegrass Slow Jam
When: Second Monday of each month
7:00 PM – 9:00 PM
September through June
The Slow Jam is the perfect place for novice players, those just starting their Bluegrass journey, or anyone who’s a little shy about playing with others. We create the safest possible environment to get comfortable making music with a group.
We gently play through simple, traditional Bluegrass songs, offering guidance and encouragement every step of the way. All levels are welcome, and we take special care to support beginners and casual musicians. Bring your acoustic instrument – everyone is welcome!
Intermediate Bluegrass Jam
Fourth Sunday of each month
7:00 PM – 9:00 PM
September through June
For our more advanced players ready for a greater challenge, join our Intermediate Bluegrass Jam!
This jam is for musicians who:
- Know a half dozen (or more!) favorite Bluegrass songs or fiddle tunes.
- Can play those songs by heart (no notes) and mostly up to speed.
- Are ready to learn more complicated tunes and/or techniques from fellow musicians.
At the Intermediate Jams, you can expect to:
- Work on playing instrumental breaks on selected Bluegrass songs or fiddle tunes.
- Pick up simpler Bluegrass songs by ear or by watching guitar chord changes.
- Bring and play traditional Bluegrass songs – we’re sticking to classic Bluegrass, not blues, rock, or other genres.
Pop/Rock Unplugged Jam
Third Monday of each month
7:00 PM – 8:30 PM
September through June
The Pop/Rock Unplugged Jam is the perfect place to get together with other musicians. We create the safest possible environment for players to get comfortable making music within the group, encouraging players to lead a song or take a solo.
We play through well-known Pop and Rock songs. All levels are welcome, and we take special care to support each musician. Bring your acoustic instrument (no amps please) – everyone is welcome!

While there’s no upfront charge to join a jam, we gratefully accept donations at each session. Your support helps us keep these vibrant musical gatherings going! You can also donate to Dedham School of Music right here on our website.
Piano Lessons
Discover the joy of the piano with personalized lessons. Our expert piano instructors will guide you through tailored instruction based on your experience level. Group Piano Classes for young children and adults as well as Collaborative Piano Sessions for teens or adults are also available. Piano lessons are offered on weekdays.

Find your rhythm and master the beat with lessons on drum set, marimba, bells, or other percussion instruments. Our private drum instructors will introduce you to the variety of percussion instruments. Percussion lessons are offered on weekdays.
